If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing Korea covered in beautiful shades of red, orange and gold, autumn might just be your favourite season! From crisp mountain air and picture-perfect walking trails to lively festivals filled with local food and culture, autumn is one of the loveliest times to explore Korea. And if you’re visiting from Singapore, where it’s warm all year round, experiencing a cool Korean autumn can feel like a whole new adventure!
One of the best ways to enjoy the season is to go hiking and admire the autumn leaves, known as 단풍 (danpung) in Korean. Don’t worry if you’re not an experienced hiker because there are plenty of beautiful places to explore at your own pace. Seoraksan National Park (설악산국립공원) is famous for its dramatic mountain scenery, while Naejangsan National Park (내장산국립공원) is a favourite for its colourful forests. If you prefer to stay closer to Seoul, Namsan Park (남산공원) offers lovely walking paths and views of the city surrounded by autumn colours. The foliage season moves from northern to southern Korea, so the best time to visit each place can vary with the weather.
Not really a hiking person? No worries! You can enjoy autumn through a leisurely stroll, too. Imagine walking beneath golden ginkgo trees, taking photos with friends and stopping at a cosy café for a warm drink. Nami Island (남이섬), with its beautiful tree-lined paths, is another popular choice for a relaxing autumn outing. Sometimes, the best travel memories come from simply slowing down and enjoying the scenery.
November is also a wonderful time to discover Korea’s seasonal festivals. If you love the outdoors, the Jeju Olle Walking Festival (제주올레걷기축제) is worth looking into. Held in November, it combines scenic walks along Jeju’s famous trails with local food, cultural performances and activities that introduce visitors to island life. It’s a lovely way to experience Jeju beyond its well-known beaches!
For food lovers, the Cheongsong Apple Festival (청송사과축제) celebrates the region’s famous apples with local produce, tasting opportunities and fun activities. Prefer arts and crafts? The Gimhae Buncheong Ceramics Festival (김해분청도자기축제) offers a chance to appreciate traditional Korean ceramics and explore hands-on experiences. Festival programmes and schedules can change each year, so remember to check the latest details before planning your trip.
Of course, no autumn adventure would be complete without trying some delicious seasonal treats! After a long walk, warm up with a cup of coffee, enjoy a roasted sweet potato or stop by a street-food stall for something tasty. And while you’re there, why not practise ordering in Korean?
Start with 안녕하세요 (annyeonghaseyo) for “Hello,” 감사합니다 (gamsahamnida) for “Thank you,” and 이거 얼마예요? (igeo eolmayeyo?) for “How much is this?” Even a few simple expressions can make everyday travel experiences more fun and meaningful.
If exploring Korea has made you curious about the language, you don’t have to wait until your next trip to get started! Learning Korean can begin with small, enjoyable steps, whether you’re watching your favourite K-drama or planning your next holiday. At Sejong Korean Language School, our friendly Korean language classes welcome learners at different levels. If you’re looking for a Korean class in Singapore, or hoping to learn to speak Korean more confidently, you can build your skills one step at a time through our Korean language courses. Even learning basic Korean phrases can open the door to a deeper appreciation of the culture.
So, whether your dream is to hike beneath colourful autumn leaves, explore a local festival or order your favourite Korean food with confidence, every new word brings you one step closer. Who knows? Your next autumn adventure in Korea might be even more memorable when you can experience a little more of it in Korean!
