Revision of Course Fees from 1 April 2021

Our school would like to announce a revision of our school fees for all courses and services (except Beginners 1 Term 1 Regular courses) from 1 April 2021. The Beginners 1 Term 1 Regular course is currently a SkillsFuture approved course and requires SkillsFuture’s review prior to course fee amendments. The revision to the Beginners 1 Term 1 regular course will be announced at a later date, following SkillsFuture’s green light.

 

The courses that will be included in the 1 April 2021 course fee revision applies to all other courses. This includes: Beginners 1 Term 1 Express, Private, Intensive and Corporate Course, as well as all course types for Beginners 1 Term 2 levels and above (Regular, Express, Intensive, Private, Ad Hoc, TOPIK Prep, Corporate). This is effective for all course fee payments made from 1 April 2021 onwards.

 

SKLS’s school fees have remained unchanged for the past 9 years, since our opening in 2012. When we became GST registered in 2015, instead of requiring the GST on all our courses be paid by the students as it was meant to be, our management decided to absorb the 7% GST for our students across all courses instead of passing it on to the consumer. This decision was our organisational commitment to keep Korean language learning as affordable and undisrupted as possible for our student community.

 

However, 9 years on, costs on all fronts have increased significantly. In particular, tightening of VISA requirements in the form of increased levies and qualifying salary requirements have impacted us dearly. There have been at least 3 rounds of VISA tightening by the government in the past 9 years, with the most recent being implemented third quarter last year (2020). The nature of our operations relies heavily on foreign employees. As many of you may know, SKLS prides ourselves on a 3% hire rate from big recruitment drives in Korea so as to be able to provide the best native teaching talent for our students. However, these considerations make us particularly vulnerable to increases in foreign staff related costs. This, coupled with our absorbing GST on behalf of our students for the past 6 years, increase in operational cost relating to the pandemic and overall reduction in class sizes due to the safe distancing adherence, has led our management to review our course fees.

 

In a bid to lessen the impact on our student community as far as possible, we will not be making any changes to the original course fees, but will no longer be absorbing GST on behalf of our students for all courses (except for Beginners 1 Term 1 Regular course, which will be revised at a later date, on approval by SkillsFuture).
